How to Choose the Right Dog for You

The hardest decision when looking for a new Dog for your family is which one would be most compatible not only to you and the family but also to your lifestyle. Dogs have been bread for centuries and some for specific purposes. Some dogs are active while others are your run of the mill couch potatoes.

There are so many things to be considered for example size. Do you have a big enough space for a large dog or are you in a small apartment which will be better for a small breed. Also a small dog is vulnerable and can be very weak, whereas a big dog can be very powerful and even overwhelming. Also as I said earlier a dog’s activity level is important to consider. If your extremely active, a jogger perhaps, there are certain breeds are perfect for you. All dogs need exercise but not the same amount so think about your daily activities and how much time you can spend taking your pup out before you choose him.

Maintenance is another huge issue when picking a breed. Some breeds tend to shed more than others while some need weekly to daily grooming as their hair tends to grow long and is susceptible to matting. In addition to matting there is the issue of drooling. There are many big dog breeds who drool and it can be a sticky mess.

There are definetly more things to consider but the ones I touched on I feel are the biggest concerns people have. There is a lot of information out there to help you with your decision one in particular that I found helpful is from AnimalPlanet.com, it is a quiz and based on your answers it chooses Dog breeds that are more compatible to what you’re looking for.
